Hotel Budapest

Architect: György Szrogh
Year of building: 1966-1967
With its 19 floors, Hotel Budapest, which opened on New Year’s Eve in 1967, was a true curiosity of its time. The top of the tower block designed by György Szrogh offers a splendid view over the Buda Mountains.

Semmelweis University Theoretical Block, Budapest

Architect: Gedeon Gerlóczy, Ernő Südi, László Wágner
Year of building: 1971-1978
The tower building of the university named after Ignác Semmelweis, “The Savior of Mothers,” was designed by three architects of IPARTERV. With its height of 89 meters, the Semmelweis University Theoretical Block in Nagyvárad Square, Budapest (also known as NET) qualified as the highest public building in Budapest for a long time.

The Institute of Information, Kyiv

Architect: Florian Jurijev, Lev Novikov
Year of building: 1964-1971
This building was the first curtain wall high-rise in Kyiv. With its 16 floors and expressive design, it still offers a peculiar view in the Ukrainian capital today. With a shape resembling a UFO, the characteristic element of the flat building connected to the high-rise gives home to the conference room.

Agricultural University in Nitra

Architect: Vladimír Dedeček, Rudolf Miňovský
Year of building: 1961-1966
In the sixties, the (Czecho)Slovakian architects strived to compete with the best of the western world—in the case of this university building in Nitra, their mission certainly succeeded. The structure considered a prominent piece of Slovak modernism was designed by Vladimír Dedeček and Rudolf Miňovský, who admittedly were inspired by the works of Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer.
